Wearing the green points leader’s jersey and riding his Propel Advanced SL Disc aero road bike with a CADEX WheelSystem, Mareczko outkicked Emils Liepins and David van der Poel at the line to win Stage 4, a 180km race from Sárospatak to Kazincbarcika.

“I feel amazing,” said the 26-year-old Italian rider after his third stage win. “The guys once again did an unbelievable job for me throughout the day and they worked hard to make sure we caught the breakaway and to help set me up for the sprint.”

A five-man breakaway built up a lead of about 3:30 over the main field before CCC Team began leading a chase to bring them back. The stage finished with two laps of a 37.8km finishing circuit with two short, steep climbs. The gap to the leaders was falling by the time they hit the finishing laps, and the main group finally reeled them in on the final climb.

Setting up for a bunch sprint, Mareczko’s teammates Łukasz Wiśniowski and Kamil Gradek helped set up their leader for the finale.

“The final kilometers were harder on paper today than on the previous stage with two short climbs on the finish circuits, but I knew I was in good shape so I wasn’t too worried about them,” said Mareczko, who wore the Giant Pursuit aero road helmet to earn the win. “The team made sure I was at the front of the bunch all day and especially at those crucial moments.”

The Tour de Hongrie finishes with Stage 5 on Wednesday, a mountain stage that’s expected to shake up the general classification results.
